C300 Audio Settings
 

I am doing a weekend of testing on the C300 prior to putting it in service soon.

I am testing side by side with EX3 for audio since both have the same specs and this is the camera it will replace. I have been testing wired with my Sennheiser MKH 60P 48 Supercardioid which I love for ambient sound. And on a boom when I have the option. Great mic.
Also with my Sennheiser 2000 wireless system and my old Sennheiser G3 system which does not stand up to the 2000 but has served well.

Does anyone use the limiter?

Seems to me when I use the limiter the db moves around when I am keeping steady input in a very controlled dry sound room. Hard to tell when I am outside with a lot of background noise.

Just diving in deep and trying to get the best audio prior to the first job.

Hi Paul,

I always use the limiter with my C300 and find it works well, though I haven't done any kind of testing on it (I assume it's the same as the one on the XF300 which I've used for a couple of years).

Having said that, I don't set gain so sound is constantly hitting the peaks - rather, my peaks are typically in the region of -6db to -3db, so the limiter is not called on too often. Personally I haven't noticed the limiter affecting overall gain (except the peaks) in a controlled environment, and I always shoot with headphones.

I qualify all of the above by saying I am by no means an audio expert/engineer! But I do find the limiter very useful.

Thanks Josh,

I found the problem. It was not the camera or the limiter it was my Presonus Firepod that runs my audio for edit machine. There was a loose cable and it had the signal coming and going. Found this out by plugging my camera right into the TV and all worked well.
