Canon EF-S 10-22mm on C300?

Has anyone tried this lens on the C300? Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM

Wondering how it works at the wide end?

Should be fine. The C300 sensor is only a fraction bigger than APS-C.

Re: Canon EF-S 10-22mm on C300?

Thanks Jalan,

Yes, I have read the specs but, I am asking if someone who owns the lens has used it with the C300 and if it works well.

I owned the lens years ago with the 7D and returned it due to poor optics.
Did I have a bad copy?
Did the lens improve?
Does it work better on the lower res C300?
Will the C300 let it go full wide with out problems?

Re: Canon EF-S 10-22mm on C300?

My Canon 10-22mm EF-S is razor sharp and seems to work well on my C100 (same sensor as C300 as you know) and is excellent on my 7D for stills - where of course resolution is even more important!

I've not noticed unacceptable vignetting on full wide even without enabling the C100s new "EF-S Lens Mode" which can digital zoom in slightly to compensate for the slightly larger sensor (1.53x I think from memory) compared to the Canon crop DSLR sensor of 1.6x. Some may notice slightly darker corners and at least one C300 owner that I know actually likes that look.

My guess is you had a bad copy back then. Why not rent one and try it out?

Thanks Andy that is what I was hoping to hear.

I must have had a bad copy which is rare from Canon.

what about the sigma? 3.5 throughout is a strong point in its favor over the canon

Re: Canon EF-S 10-22mm on C300?

Thanks Darren but it is Canon for me, being a CPS it makes perfect sense. I know the C300 does not handle Sigma as well as Canon. And you can do CA correction for Canon glass and just have better control of the lens. I think I will purchase the 10-22 Canon just for the C300. I try to only purchase Canon L glass, but the 17-55 (perfect fit for the C300) and I think the 10-22 will also be nice for the C300. To go long I have plenty of Canon L options.

Re: Canon EF-S 10-22mm on C300?

Attached is a screengrab from a shoot with a C100 and EF-S 10-22mm .
Somewhere along the route via VLC and iphoto it has been cropped slightly. I don't have time to work out why.
So it is not as helpful as it could be.
Even so I am posting in case it is of any interest.
I think the lens was as wide as it would go. I may have zoomed in very slightly for framing.

We compared this lens versus the Canon 10-22mm EF-S on C100 & C300. The Tokina felt better built but to my eye the image from the Canon was better as even at its widest there was less distortion than on the Tokina so the verticals in the foreground weren't toppling over.

Re: Canon EF-S 10-22mm on C300?

Paul I regularly use the 10-22 on the C300 without any vignetting. The lens is wonderful.

Always wanted to try the Tokina and glad to hear your results, Nigel. I wonder if, in your opinion, the Tokina's increased distortion is more or less significant than its ability to open up to f/2.8.

thanks Andrew,

Purchased it and I like it. Miss the IS from the 17-55 at times but the 10-16 wide is nice.

Re: Canon EF-S 10-22mm on C300?

congrats on the purchase. throw up some shots!

i can offer up my current wide solution: the tokina 12-24 f4. fits my range needs rather nice. i believe this was shot around 15mm wide open, as you can see a bit of softness in the corners, but great in the center:
