Battery Size - C100
After much debate, finally got the C100. It will be brought down south by a friend from the US later this week. Very excited.
Now I need to get a spare battery. Someone recommended getting the smaller size (PP-955/950) as the 970 sticks out of the back of the cam and makes it a bit unbalanced. Thoughts? Also, was thinking Wasabi. It'll be a backup |
Re: Battery Size - C100
I got an additional 'big brick' for my C100.
Yes, it does stick out a little bit, but it doesn't feel unbalanced. On the contrary, I imagine it to be a little less nose-heavy. But then again, I'm used to the 'big booty' look from the BP-U60s for the Sony EX1s. Very happy with the longevity of the bigger brick. Pretty much all day shooting, though yet to pull it through an 18 hour day. |
Re: Battery Size - C100
Ive read that the BP-970 has issues with the C300 and curious if its the same case with the C100 and I mean electronically not cosmetically. I've been looking at the Swit battery that has an attachment to charge a light or power a monitor but I ended up buying a BP-955 for $155 brand new to be safe.

I heard that the bigger battery didn't provide 'minutes left', just the little battery icons, and I'm guessing that's for the 970. The 975 reports minutes left, and should tell jokes and make me a tea in the morning for what it cost. |

Re: Battery Size - C100
Matt - the big battery doesn't make it uncomfortable to use the EVF (if pressed up against your face like people say you need to)? I'd quite happily get more bang for my buck if it doesn't interfere with shooting ... a fe more grams ain't a big deal I don't think.

Re: Battery Size - C100
The big battery poses absolutely no problem for me. Like many new owners, I've got used to cocking my head to one side to use the EVF, and my bag (ThinkTank Airport Acceleration) is squishy enough to adapt to the bigger 'booty' battery if it's fitted.

Re: Battery Size - C100
I thought hard about battery size on my C100 - yeah, I know, I should get a life!
In the end I went with 3 x Canon BP-955 as I wanted to keep things as small profile/compact and light as possible, after all that's one of the advantages of having this type of camera. Sure, not the most economical way of powering but at least its one less variable with balance set-up if I use the C100 on my Steadicam if all my batteries are the same - not had time to try that yet! I have also been amazed at how long the small batteries last! |

Re: Battery Size - C100
Careful with batteries that aren't the 955/975 for C100.
At least in my case, the C100 will not operate for more than 2 seconds with the 925/945 (more older batteries). I'm using the 955 and 975 without any difficulty. I don't mind the protruding 975. I'd rather not have to worry about time running out. |
