Re: Canon Firmware Announced for C500, C300, & C100 Cameras: Texas Media Systems

Thanks for that post Terry,

I thought for a moment that this announcing the availability of the previously announced firmware and got quite excited.

However having followed the link in your post I discovered that this firmware will not be available until November at the earliest for the C300 and C100, December for the C500 and next year for the XF305 and 300.

What's new for all three Cinema EOS cameras is a huge increase in the ISO - from 20,000 up to 80,000. Not sure what that will look like but it could come in useful I guess.

For the C300, as well as the previously announced features such as one push autofocus and push auto iris and the magnify location shift there is also something people asked for when the camera was released, the ability to assign ISO and iris adjustments to the control dial or the the dial on the removable side grip handle.

Looks theres something useful for whichever Cinema EOS camera you own and also continued support for the XF305 and 300.

Terry's post was updated to provide a link to the official press release as published on DV Info Net. It has better formatting than the original that was provided by CUSA, plus photos; also, the original included a weird availability chart that was more confusing than it was informative. I've provided a much better solution by simply providing the availability dates at the end of each section. Once again, that link is:

Re: Canon Firmware Announced for C500, C300, & C100 Cameras

Doesn't seem very accurate. For example, it says:

For C100: "Of course, all of the EOS C100 camera's operational modes, including Record, can still be accessed and controlled remotely while filming using the optional Canon WFT-E6A Wireless File Transmitter and a compatible remote tablet, laptop computer or smartphone."

Can you even use the wireless on the C100?

Good job by Canon on not getting their facts straight! ;)

The new firmware for the Canon C100 is available at the link above, but for some reason Canon has removed the firmware upgrade for the C300. No official response.

That's odd, I downloaded this last night and yep, It's gone. I have to say that the update didn't include the 1 frame accumulation for time lapse for PAL users. The Wide DR profile looks good.

I think there has been an official US response -

Canon U.S.A. : Support & Drivers : Consumer & Home Office

It seems that the firmware upgrade exhibits the same problem as a previous firmware iteration, whereby there are difference in the colour matrix as you move through Colour Temperature - basically, a Custom Profile at 3200K looks a little strange at 5800K.

I'm sure it will be back up soon with a minor modification.

For those already affected, I think you have to contact your local Canon rep to find out if they can provide a special version of the firmware which enables you to go back one step (which is IIRC possible, but not provided officially as it is a ticklish software installation unsuitable for public release).
