Canon C100 Shutter Speed 30?
 

I have had my C100 for about a month now and I normaly shoot 30F with a shutter speed of 60. I am filming an indoor event over the weekend, and the lighting will be quite dim. I would like to set the shutter speed at 30 to let in more light while filing at 30P, Has any one had any issue with this camera at a shutter of 30 rather than the normal 60 at this frame rate?

Probably better to up the iso than reduce shutter speed, might give you some weird motion artifacts.

From my experience, fast movement might be a bit "stuttery" at 1/30.

I'd up the ISO instead... I get pretty clean footage up to 12800 and even higher.

It is a matter of trade-off between increased motion blur with the slower shutter speed vs more video noise at higher gain/ISO. If it is a sporting event, no doubt I'd make the same choice as John and Jody and bump the ISO while keeping the 1/60th shutter.

On the other hand, I've shot many orchestra and band concerts at 1/30th because there isn't that much overall motion and I really wanted to minimize dealing in post with fixing "gain grain" on black formalwear or close-ups of wood instruments. For those kind of shoots, I've never had motion blur appear excessive with a 1/30th shutter.

It wont be to much motion involved. Its for the ceremony portion of a wedding. I will be using the 24-105 which only has 4.0.

I go with a slow 1/25 (PAL) shutter all the time when the motion is relatively static. Better to film at 4000 ISO than 10 000 ISO if you can. The C100 also has a slow shutter setting in the menus (Menu > Shutter > Slow), you can take it down to 1/3, great for a low light time-lapse.

I am also a 30p 1/60 guy, but I won't hesitate to turn down the speed to 1/30 in really dark settings where there's no fast movement.

I was at a really dark wedding (at night in the rain with basically no lights on (and umbrellas shielding away any light there was) in Boston. I was SO impressed with how the C100 could see in the dark.

This image (and believe me, you could barely see them in person) is 30p, 1/30, ISO 12,800 (no grading). Sure, it's not the sharpest, most vibrant footage, but, given how it looked in person, I'm impressed. (Fortunately, the rest of the day was in nice, slightly cloudy light outdoors and elegant interiors. Just the ceremony was a beast!)
