Avid not yet accepting C300 Mark II 50mb files

Avid has not yet supported MPEG-4 50mb Long GOP files from the C300... which has turned into a slight pain in the rear for me and my clients on Avid systems. I use the Mark II in conjunction with the original C300 as A and B cams, lots of 1080p work, trying to match files and such with two cameras.

Come on Avid... support the files!

From Canon Rep:

"The C300 Mk II records a MPEG-4 based file, whereas the original C300 was MPEG-2. MPEG-4 gives the new camera better compression methodology for all aspects, especially the high data needs of quality 4k. So while the data rate is the same as the original C300, the file structure is different.

This isn't a big deal with any NLE, except for one caveat. Avid won't directly accept any MPEG-4 Long-GOP file. It will accept the larger bit rates that aren't Long-GOP. Adobe Premiere and FCP X will accept either.

Unfortunately, we are awaiting Avid to support the MPEG-4 Long GOP files, like they do the MPEG-2 files. Your feedback to Avid would hopefully help speed that along.

I wish I had better news, but my immediate suggestion would be:

1. Shoot at the higher bit rate (intra) setting. Avid should have no problem with this. (Easiest from my perspective).

2. Continue to shoot the Long GOP files, but then convert the files to another format using other software (usually Premiere).

3. Use Premiere or FCP for the editing (which I am guessing is the least likely option for your editor. Sorry to suggest it, but I'd be remiss if I didn't include it.)
