Mysterious Mixture - C100 Mark II Music Video
 

Shot this on the Canon C100 Mark II and the Sony A7R Mark II. The C100 was ProRes HQ to the Shogun and the A7R II was internal 4K. Rendered out to ProRes Proxy in Resolve in used for a nine source multicam sequence (with the story sequence shots laid out after).

Really wished I had my C300 Mark II to shoot this on, but didn't get it for a couple more weeks after shooting this.

How big was your crew? What did you use for playback? Lighting package for band shots? Available light on the street or did you bring some LEDs for fill?

It was just me. I had some help on the downtown shots, mostly to hold things and Hollywood my Aputure Amaran LED fixture.

It was ProResHQ on the Shogun, so what little playback I did was via that unit.

4 Westcott uLite softboxes for fill, a scoop for the singer rigged overhead, and gelled Lightstorm units (to match tungsten) for keys on the band in the back.

The single Amaran as mentioned before (cannot beat it for portability) with the diffuser for a couple of shots, and then just available lighting for everything else.

what stabilizer did you use for the C100 mk2? I have an older one-simple type Blackbird and I will try to use it with the C100mk2 for short clips. I will remove the top handle to make it lighter and will use maybe a Canon 10-18mm STM lens (lighter than the Tokina!)....I'm not sure what stabilizer will be the best match forh the C100 mk2..Movi? etc...they look complicated and even use batteries...

Hey Erick, I used the Canon 17-55 f/2.8 with the stabilization turned on, set to 17mm, and just walked with it. In post, I judiciously tweaked the Warp Stabilizer effect to smooth it out. This method requires a lot of playing with to make it work, and it's my go-to option for adding more gimbal like movement when a gimbal is not available.

I did use a Movi M5 on this piece that I shot back last spring:


I would think the Ronin M would be a better option though, mostly because the LiPo batteries the Movi uses are a pain. The one used on that video was a rental and the batteries were shot. We got one full use out of them and then, even after following the directions to a T, we could never get a good charge after that. However, I have yet to use a Ronin M, only the full size, which is really heavy comparatively speaking.
