Bower FD to EOS adapter

I read negative comments about these FD adapter all over the web but I'm hardheaded and bought one anyway. In case anyone else is wondering about these, I have some quick and dirty pictures comparing EF 85mm and FD 85mm. My first impression is that the FD is soft and hazy wide open but sharpens considerably with a stop down. I can't really recommend it to people for still photos but might be useful for video if you have some rare sentimental lens (for me it's my 55mm f/1.2 which I personally removed the aperture clicks).

Here's the photos, focused on the UPC on the bag of doggie treats.

One thing I noticed is my EF 85mm gets 15 ft before infinity focus whereas my FD 85mm and 50mm gets 30 ft. My Sigma 20mm (EOS) gets 5 ft whereas my sigma 28mm (FD) get 10 ft, and I think even the FD 20mm gets 10 ft. Can someone explain why the EF lenses have a shorter distances before the focus hits infinity?
