5D Firmware Download Party in NYC

AbelCineTech and Canon are throwing a 5D firmware download party on March 16th. We will be preforming free firmware upgrades all day, and showing off new HDSLR gear. In the evening there will be a presentation from Canon and Abel. All are welcome to attend and have their firmware upgraded. You can always upgrade the firmware yourselves, but it's a good reason to get together. Everyone is welcome.

The party will be at AbelCineTech in NYC. Stay Tuned for more information on the event.

Also I'm looking for footage to show at the event, so please PM me with links to your 5D work.

Andy

I guess this gives us a date for the download being available. :)

Are you guys planning an "up-all-nighter"?

Canon says download is available from March 17.

Or do you get a pre-release? =)

Canon will be there preforming upgrades. I'll look into some St. Patty's day style refreshments.

Small update! Because of overwhelming demand we are having two presentations that night. One at 6pm and one at 7:30. Jon Fauer, ASC and editor of Film & Digital Times will be presenting.

Hope to see you there.

Another Update.

Illya from HotRod camera will be coming in to show off his new modified 7D with a PL mount. We will be taking orders for these at the event.

Would love to go to NYC but...

I won't be able to attend the event. Could someone do all the FCP users a favor? Find one of the Canon reps. Back them into a corner and ask about the release about the EOS plugin they mentioned for FCP. I know this isn't as cool as the new 24p firmware upgrade but I'm real curious to see what this bad boy will offer. It makes sense that they would offer it after the firmware upgrade since people might not be that interested to use it if they still wanted to conform the clips to 24p.

Hey Thomas, you can see exactly what it's all about right here.

Canon Digital Learning Center - Introducing EOS Movie Plugin-E1 for Final Cut Pro

It's actually going to be in the same league as the firmware update as far as our workflow is concerned. The real potential of CF acquisition is just that until this is released. The ability to capture just what you need from a clip, especially when you're producing long format work, and skipping the second round of Pro Res transcoding will simply make post exceedingly faster...not to mention the potential of 3x faster transcoding.

I'm betting they put it up with the new firmware, but that's just a guess.

Yes this looks like a major workflow improvement. I would love to see something similar for Premiere Pro.

Thanks for the link

Hey Jim, thanks for the link. I haven't seen this info yet. However, this still leaves me wondering about the release. The article says early March. With today being the 15th, this has us heading into late March. I hope you are right. A simultaneous launch would be awesome.

By the way Thomas, I may be wrong but it doesn't look like the new plugin includes EXIF info in the logging process (only user defined metadata). In case you weren't aware and as a general FYI, you can get the basic EXIF info for any clip - focal length, shutter speed and aperture - by changing the clip's .THM file extension to .jpg and then right clicking the file and doing a "Get Info".

That will be a pity if true as that feature was part of the original announcement by Glue Tools of this plugin before it was bought out by Canon.

View EXIF data of each Canon DSLR clip

Once the GlueTools plug-in is installed, a new menu item will be available in Final Cut Pro’s Tools menu. By selecting a clip in Final Cut Pro, one can select the Tools > Canon EXIF Data menu item and see the EXIF data that was ingested with the shot. EXIF information associated with the footage, such as the Exposure, Shutter Speed, etc, will all be available.

Any news from the Canon guys on the EOS E1 plug-in?

Just wondered if the Canon guys at the firmware update event had anything to say about the likely availability date for the EOS E1 FCP plug-in? The Canon USA website is still showing 'Early March'.
