Using a Canon 40/50d L-plate on 7d

Perhaps I'm just being impatient and should wait until I get one in my hands, but I'm just wondering if anybody out there with a canon 7d knows if it is possible to use the really right stuff L-plate from the 40d on a 7d?

I heard that it fits on the 50d no problem, so I guess if the 7d is similar enough to the 50d then I should be ok.

From the 50d/7d side by side photos it looks like the 7d has virtually the same form factor, but it's hard to see the difference in size of the flaps that cover the usb and other ports.
