Premiere Elements problem with 7D

I recently purchased a Canon 7D and shot my first video with it. Also, I shot some video with my Canon sd880 Powershot point & shoot.

These video clips all play back great in the camera and conneted to my TV.
These clips all play great on my brand new HP laptop running Windows 7.

So now I want to put the clips together and delete some of the bad footage and make a short "movie". Just very simple.

I purchased Adobe Element Premiere 8. (I am not a techie and wanted something very simple and this was recommended to me.)

At first Adobe Premiere Elements 8 would not recognize any of my video clips (.mov) or my still imagef iles. All I got was an error message. I down loaded Quicktime and now PS8 recognizes the video clips.

I brought my first clips into PS8 now and if I play the clip in PS8 it is very "choppy". Start, slows down, pauses, starts, etc. Have not edited yet. Only brought them "into" a new PS8 project. Looks horible and seems difficult to edit.

These same clips play fine on the laptop using Windows Media Player. Most clips are less than one minute and none more than 3 minutes.

Tried contacting Canon and they say to contact Adobe. Adobe will not respond.

I am stuck. What should I do. Just wnat to make a simple home movie with some canon video clips. Appreciate any advcie.
