Component to hdmi converter question.

I don't have an hdmi monitor, and both of mine are component. I bought the converter from monoprice (I think) and it works well. The only problem is that you need to plug it in to ac for it to work. I was originally told that it didn't need power.
Has anyone figured a way to battery power thie unit? Other wise I can't use it on a location where ther is no ca.
Thanks
