7D footage zooms in when I load it into my timeline
 

I did a shoot with the EX3 and Canon 7D. Since the majority of the footage is in XDCAM I made my time line settings to work with the EX3 in 30P mode. I shot with the canon in 30p as well but when I go to import my canon footage into my time line it zooms in by 50%. When I go to change the scale size of the footge it doesn't work. I encoded the 7D with the XDCAM codec. Is there a way I can edit these 2 together without messing around with the size.

I would load them both natively, then convert to ProRes 422, if you're using FCP.

What NLE? In FCP you can mix different codecs on the same timeline.

I'm sorry guys I am using FCP 6.0.6 but what I am finding weird is even though all of my 7D clips are encoded the same when I bring them into my timeline it only happens to certain clips. I would think it should happen to all of them right ?

Have you played the clips you loaded in original H.264 form, just to see if they're really all the same? I don't see how some would expand and others wouldn't if they're all the same.

I had something like this happen in FCP when I loaded some raw 720p 60 (unconverted) clips into the timeline set up for 1080 29.97 prores. They would zoom way into them when I tried to play them. Once converted they played fine. Maybe that is it?

I think you are right I just re encoded them to pro res and it seemed to have helped. I usually encode them in pro res but I hate the rendering times so i decided to encode them with the XDCAM codec. But I think thats the problem, the shots a that have been shot in 60p are the ones messing up.

This is happening because the shots in 60P are 1280x720 and your loading them into a 1080P timeline. FCP is scaling them to fit.
