Slow motion editing with DSLR's

Has anyone tried slowing down their footage in post with either the 7D or T2i? I assume they shoot only progressive, not interlaced. Is this correct? I see that they can shoot 720 60p, which from what I read looks great in slo-mo, but I do not intend on shooting that format. I am strictly going to shoot 1080, 29.97. Let me know if doing slow motion in post results in jerky video when shooting in this latter format. I use Premiere CS3 so I would be using Neoscene to do conversion to .avi. I read that Neoscene deinterlaces all the footage, so I guess it doesn't matter what the source is (interlaced or progressive). Since I do not yet have camera or Neoscene, I am anxious to here feedback form folks who have both and have tried slo-mo in post. Thanks.

I received this message today directly from Cineform, referring to their Neoscene product:

Hi Stephen,

Thanks for your questions. Here are some answers.

1) yes we support the T2i.

2) Neo Scene has 3 conversion options - maintain source, deinterlace, and convert to 24p (remove pulldown). With the T2i you always want to use the 'maintain source' option. Neo Scene will see that it is already deinterlaced on not do any extra processing during conversion.

3) Regarding slow motion, the best way to get good results is to shoot in 60fps and then conform it to 23.976. That's what most people are doing with these cameras. You can do this conversion in our higher end Neo HD product, but not with Neo Scene. However, you're wanting to stick with 1080 29.97 throughout your workflow so this makes it a little harder to achieve a non-jerky slow motion effect. In this case you will be relying on CS3's ability to frameblend your footage on the timeline. Neo Scene does not play a factor in this process.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Now, I am not shooting in 24p, just sticking with 1080, 29.97. Let me know if anyone out there has done successful slow motion with 7D or T2i, shooting 1080, 29.97, editing in Premiere Pro CS3, without having to buy very expensive Cineform NeoHD software ($499).
