Live capture by HDMI with the black magic card
 

Hi guys,
I have just done some test live capturing the Canon 7D through the HDMI port. The footage look lovely with nice color and blur DOF. The file is uncompressed HD 4:2:2. I really love it. But still something i can't do about it. There 2 black transparent bar on the top and the bottom, the red dot while recording, if not recording the rectangle white outline appear. Anybody can give me any advice to solve this problem?

And another question: in the room with neon light, the clip will be flicking if shutter is not 50 or 60. Sometimes i prefer the shutter is more than 100 to get bigger aperture so any solutions?

To maintain your desired aperture and shutter combination, you will either need to change ISO or add ND.

What is a 'black magic card'? Are you referring to the BlackMagic Intensity?

The Syndicate was working on a way to record the signal from the 7D and upresing to 4:4:4. The biggest issue was the red "record" dot, but was resolved by using the same frames from the CF card. So they were doing a dual-record both from the CF card at h.264 and the hdmi through a MXO2 Mini.

On the 5D2, I can push the focus box into the corner and get something like a 2:1 aspect ratio WITHOUT recording. (The 5D2 goes to 480p once recording starts.)

I hear that by setting the focus mode to "face", the box disappears, but I haven't tried it.

Unfortunately, we have to scale the image up to get 1080p, and aliasing still exists.

I have downloaded the demo, it doesn't work with Blackmagic Multibridge Pro. DID i do something wrong?

Thanks Jon i tried to geet2:1 aspect ratio without recording, and i have chosen the Face Live Mode but if a face appear in the frame a small box will appear following the face to focus it.

why do we have to scale tthe images up to get 1080p? what "aliasing still exists" means?

Please look at the following image from the 5D2 at 1:1 scaling.

This HDMI capture includes the user interface information. The image area is not full screen. The video only fills the screen on playback. During Live View, the output is a 16x9 video image within a 4x3 window that includes the user interface information. The 4x3 image is within the final 1080p output. So the final video area is less than 1080p and must be scaled up.

"Aliasing" can be seen on the diagonal lines. You can also see color aliasing on the patterns of the wall. The actual wall is two tone with a very fine light and dark pattern. The aliasing makes the pattern look coarse and it introduces incorrect colors.

Again, this is from the 5D2 in Live View when it is not recording. Maybe the 7D is different.

same as 7D the irritating rectangle white outline box appear all the time. Should wait for the better firmware.
