Experience with recent shoot - What am I doing wrong?
I am new user to Canon EOS 7D. Recently I shot video for music video that I planned on Chroma (Blue) Screen in a basement.
I lit the screen nicely with 500w lights on each side. No issues with Screen keying later. My real issue was subject lighting. We used 1000W work lights on each side. Even with this lighting I had to go 1/30sec speed and 4.0 aperture. and ISO at 640. I couldn't get any better video other than these settings. I was using Canon EF-50mm and Canon EF-24-105mm L series lens for this shoot. Is really lighting my constraint. I really want to shoot at 160 or atleast at 125. At the same time I don't want depth of field or no bocke effect. Any suggestions. |
What don't you like about the image you got? Screen grab?
|
Why didn't you raise the ISO to 800 or even 1250.
The image should hold up very well even at those ISOs. |
I can go above 640, I was kinda following eyepatch entertainment EOS7d tutorials at YouTube - eyepatchentertainmen's Channel. In his video, he suggested use ISOs in multiples of 160,320, 640.....etc. However going beyond 640 is kinda noisy.....

The dance moments were not natural.

you shouldnt have had any problems with too much / not enough light..
if the motion looks strage you probably should have left the shutter speed at 60, then you could compensate with a lower ISO |
What is the best way to clean up noise? is there a Noise Ninja like tools for Video?
|
Just out of curiosity what was your frame rate? If you shot at 60fps it's going to take the light down by a stop compared to 30fps.
|
At f/4 you are not making things easy for yourself. Even going to f/2.8 will give you a whole lot more light. I'm sure you want to keep your subject sharp to make the keying easier, so you'll have to find the balance between sharp subject/high ISO that you like best.

You need to post a sample. How can anyone critique or help you without seeing any footage. I know I cannot.
I havent got a clue what you mean by 'not natural'. |
