The best of the best... I have not come across anything that it didn't play.

VLC doesn't play WMVs, at least in my experience. That being said, WMV is an awful format, anyway.

why do you think it's awful- I find .wmv files to have very good quality and small file sizes.

WMV (VC-1) is one of the best playback formats available. It's truly a shame Macs don't play it well. You might want to read up a bit on the codec/container before declaring it awful.

It's odd that Quicktime doesn't play the file well, but it plays just fine in FCP, which is using Quicktime.

Funny, I have the opposite issue. QT Pro plays them back smoother than FCP. Neither are perfect, but QT comes close enough for at least a primary QC. Interestingly, video files from the 5D play with a lot more stuttering, though the bitrates are comparable. Same system, same file format (seemingly) but the T2i plays better.

One very good player I use since I abandoned VLC, is Media Player Classic. But because I am on W7 Ultimate it has the limitation for the moment not being able to play QT files. At 32bit versions however it can play any QT file.

Yes... I have had very little to do with WMVs.... as little as I forgot it existed.

Correction: I have not come across anything that it didn't play, except for wmvs.

Have you tried Canon zoombrowser player? For me it plays Canon's mov better than QT and VLC
