How to achieve this stop motion effect

I really like the effect used in this video but wondered what settings to use? I'm assuming that it would be best to use a wide angle lens (such as the Tokina 11-16 to assist with focus) and then to keep pressing the shutter to take each of the photos (or would an intervalometer be required?)

you set the camera to shoot 8 frames a sec stills and render it as a movie. To achieve the blur in some sequences I'm guessing he just set the shutter speed real low.
