Editing question:

Hi,

I plan to edit my footage using NeoScene/Vegas 9.
The only hitch is that my current PC is a little dated and not exactly up to video editing standards,

What PC Specs would I need to edit the footage smoothly (I plan to build my own PC so I just need advice on what level of Processor, Hard Drive, Ram, Graphics card etc).

Thank you,

- Andrew

even a cheap core2duo with 4gb ram (preferably) will work. graphics card is almost irrelevant. buy big HD's to make sure you have enough room for the cineform files.

I'm able to use Vegas 9 and Cineform on an old Athlon single core machine. You don't need a fantastic computer to edit with those tools.

That said, Vegas can run out of memory when doing complex renders. You really want a 64-bit machine with at least 4GB of RAM to ensure that your renders don't crash.

or you can hack some of the .exe and .dll files and stick with a 32-bit platform like xp (which does work very well too)

Do you have any details about these hacks?

hey jon, they don't apply to you if you're on 64bit platform, but for the rest of us still running 32-bit XP, they are a lifesaver:

Sony Creative Software - Forums - Vegas Pro - Video Messages

this is the thread that turned vegas pro from a completely useless edit platform (for me) to something that actually works very well. technically, the problem seems not to be inherent to vegas, but windows; but i didn't really care who was to blame when nothing worked for me.
