Hey Rob, it's not a 170, but to my knowledge the HMC150 has the same front end sensor though it records to AVCHD - Please correct me if I am wrong. Below are a few samples where I mixed the HMC150 with 7D:

HMC150 for speaker shots on podium from rear of room, everything else is 5D/7D

Closeup cams are 7D, wider shots are HMC150 (not the best lighting situations)

2 HMC150s and one 7D on shoulder rig

I had my HMC150s custom tuned to match the Marvel's preset on the 7D as much as possible, and results right out of camera were usually perfect for live events and the like. If you're looking for settings, I think the 170 uses the same type of profile. Fairly grade-able as well. Hope this helps....

Nate, what lens(es) are you using in the seminar video? I like the airport footage, considering it was in a run-n-gun type of situation I bet.

Edward, seminar was shot mainly with a Sigma 30mm F1.4 for the interview portions and a Canon 70-200mm IS for the close ups. Also had a Tokina 11-16mm for those really wide shots. What airport footage were you referencing?

Sorry, I'm an idiot. The initial arriving of the people looked like it was in an airport. I should've paid more attention. Thanks for the info on the lenses. So you used the Canon on the people arriving at the start? I noticed no distortion on the building wides; were you zoomed in on the Tokina?

My kit consisted of a 11-16mm, 30mm, 85mm, 24-105 F4, and a 70-200mm IS. I'm pretty sure I was using the 70-200 on those first hallway shots, but thinking about it more, it might have been the 30mm...

Outside stuff was 11-16mm, probably closer to the 16mm end of the range - there's just a little distortion, but it's not overly noticeable. Love what the ultra-wide does for my work. It's a really interesting perspective for people, even with the mild fish-eye on the wide end. Thanks!

Thanks for the info, Nate. I've been contemplating getting a 30 or 35mm f1.4 but I wanted to see more examples before pulling the trigger. With my cropped 60D, I know these focal ranges will get me closest to the 50mm "true eye" perspective.

I've got the Tokina 11-16 and love the distortion on the widest end for a lot of my shots. But sometimes I just want a normal wide view without it looking so "artsy."

30mm is definitely a go-to when it comes to low-light, depth, and relatively normal field of view. I've gotten lots of use out of my Sigma F1.4, but I also have the 50mm and 85mm USM lenses from Canon (not L-series). I'm kind of toying swapping the Sigma for a 28mm F1.8 Canon, so the set woul match, and perhaps have a better focusing feel as the Sigma can be little stiff. Just something to check out, I think pricing is very similar.
