Looking for wired remote for Rebel 3ti

I see quite a number of wireless and hard wired remotes for the Rebel 3ti, but none of them trigger record when in movie-mode.

I'm looking for a hard wired remote - a lanc connection, I guess, which will allow me to start/stop record and to focus. It would be nice to be able to zoom, but I don't think that's possible given the camera's brain.

So does anyone know of such a gadget?

I often use my 3ti with a monopod and get good looking overhead shots by using the monopod horizontally - like a boom swinger uses a mike boom. So I have to pre-focus and pre-start because I can't reach the camera body when in the "booming" position.

And I want hard wired because I am operating from a position where the infra red thing probably would not be in the line of sight.

Best

Harry.

Ideas, boys and girls?

Not sure about the T3i. But Magic lantern on the T2i you can assign the record putton to the "take picture button" maybe this would work with the remote.

Sounds like you need more than a wired remote. I presume you've seen DSLR remote by Chainfire? That's an option if you're have an Android phone or tablet with USB host. I have also seen some iPhone offerings, but I don't know how they compare features wise.

Personally I use one of these:

With one of these old school UMPCs:

ULTRA MOBILE PC TIPS: Wibrain B1 Review

And plain old Canon EOS utility remote software from within windows XP. No wires, no infra red. I can certify that it works very well. If you read all the Amazon reviews of the WUSB set, it's clear people expect it to perform as well as a cable. It doesn't, and it doesn't need to. It works great over 10-15 feet, like when your camera is on a boom.

You don't need to use a UMPC, a notebook or a netbook or a windows tablet would work well too.

The reason you can't zoom is not so much a problem with the camera's brain, it's just that zooms aren't motorised, so you'd need some mechanical help, like an adapted motorised follow focus system. In other words, forget that one :)

Thanks very much. I'll check that out.
