EOS M Firmware upgrade out

I don't see any other message on this issue, so figured I'd let folks know. The firmware for the EOS M came out last week. I installed it today and the autofocus is "fixed" I would say. Seems very fast and snappy on the 22mm pancake lens. I would recommend it to anyone that has this camera. I haven't tried it on other lenses yet, but the same lens before the upgrade was virtually unuseable for AF. DIdn't bother me much as I pretty much always focus manually. But if you have Canon glass and had stayed away from this camera because of the AF, now might be a good time to reconsider.

If you want to see some samples of the output of the camera, in JPG and not RAW format, you can check out the photos from my Grand Canyon float trip in May. Get past the starting shots and look at the landscapes. I think that the camera is an excellent still camera and a 7D subsitute, which is not saying a lot, but the video out of it is better than a lot of other cameras if you are traveling and needing to get a combo camera for mainly stills that is very portable.

One shot to show what I mean.

Re: EOS M Firmware upgrade out

Yes, the 2.0.2 firmware upgrade is a big improvement for autofocus. I've used it with the 22mm pancake, the EFS 17-55mm 1/2.8, and it works well with the 300mm 1/2.8 L II (which I use for wildlife),

The Servo AF does a good job with video with the 22mm. But with the 17-55 the focal length shifts slightly with focus so the Servo AF is not smooth. I had never considered video with the 300mm, but the Servo AF is good enough on this lens I think I'll try it.

The EOS M is really a bargain these days, and with this upgrade it makes a nice second camera. I use it mainly for stills, but the video is acceptable as well.
