Nikon Lens Protrusion
 

I have seen posts and references to having to grind down some Nikon lens protrusion, to avoid damage to the 5D2 mirror. Has anyone here personally done so, and how do you determine the need to, without causing camera damage. I haven't gotten my camera yet. It is in transit.

The older Nikon lenses non auto focus, non auto iris lenses are not a problem, for me anyway I use the Nikon 50 1.4 AIS with an Adorama adapter with no problem.

It would be nice if someone here could post what lenses are a problem.

I was a little concerned at first, but after putting lens and adapter together I compared it to a few EOS lenses before sticking it on the 5D body. It is not hard to take a few measurements with a caliper and small metal ruler to confirm fit. Of course you need the lens and adapter to do this.

Thanks Olof. Many of my lenses are of the older variety, and the two particularly concerned me. I am attaching a picture of the 24mm F 2.8 Nikkor N lense as an example. do the lenses you have used have this type of "flange".

It looks to me that when mounted on camera, this flange will be at bottom of camera lens receiver mouth, and that may take it out of harms way, but just wondering what others are experiencing.

With no lens on, go into the system menu and turn on sensor cleaning. That will flip the mirror of the camera up and lock it. Place the lens in question on the camera. Turn the camera power off and the mirror will drop back down into position. Listen very closely as you detach the lens and pull it off and see if you hear it fall from an upper position down into place as you take the lens off.

My lens is a little different, all of it protrudes further in even the glass. and the protruding flange is much wider.

The adapter ring moves the lens out a little more than a 1/4", so the flange does not stick out as far.

I can post a photo if that would help. But I think some measuring would tell you if you need to cut flange down.
