5d Mk II Bundle Ideas
 

Hey guys,

So AbelCineTech is getting into selling video accessories for the 5d Mark II and I'd like to get your feedback. I'd like to make bundles that lower the price overall for you guys, something similar to what we did with the Red User Group. I'm talking bundles aimed at the DSLR filmmaker - Tripods, Camera Support, Mattebox/FF, audio gear, etc. It worked out really well with the Red users because we were able to rally special deals from manufacturers. DVInfo users can do the same thing. We just need to know what you are after. I'm a 5d owner myself, so I have an idea, but I'd like to see what you guys think. Any ideas?

Z-Finder, HoodLoupe?
Monitors?
Audio Gear?
Bags?

Any ideas would be great. I can't promise anything at this point, but the bigger the response the better the package.

I can think of at least two different applications, and each could have at least a couple of levels of cost and performance/features. These are ENG, based on shoulder support systems and loupes, and filmmaking, which would be monitor based for use with various dollies, balance rigs, sliders and such.

The main thing I'd like in an overall package would be a consistent way of moving the camera system from tripod to rig to rig - all on one convenient base plate.

Regarding audio, the 5D2 isn't quite ready for primetime. For now, we need a separate recorder. Once Magic Lantern's firmware is released, it's possible that 5D2 audio will be production ready. One approach would be to bundle the juicedLink CX231 with a cheap mini-jack input recorder with a headphone monitor. The day Magic Lantern ships, we can ditch the recorder, and plug the juicedLink into the 5D2. That might be more economical than buying a $1,000 recorder in order to get adequate preamps.

A nice ENG kit would include a travel case that can hold the goods, plus a few lenses that you can pull out, snap together, and start shooting - especially if it can fit airline carry on requirements.

Another thing that I'd like is a simple, battery-powered, color-temp controlled LED fill. The 5D is awesome in low light, be we still need faces to stand out from our backgrounds. Unfortunately, I haven't found that perfect, cheap solution. Someday...

Personally, I think the Red Rock supports are pretty awesome looking and functional.

For LED's check out LitePanels. I've used the micro series on multiple occasions (AA powered and with an 85 filter).

I would think about deals with Zeiss ZE or ZF lenses and maybe the Canon TS-E lens range.
