Connect my RODE NTG-2

Has anyone connected a Rode NTG-2 to there 5Dmk2?
I have the mount, I'm just wondering how to connect XLR to 1/8" mini???
Is this possible and safe for the 5Dmk2?

I recommend the juicedLink CX231 or CX211. The 231 has phantom power, so it will work with other mics as well. The 211 will work fine with the NTG-2 though, if you use a battery.

Typically, mics have more dynamic range with phantom power than with a battery, but I don't know if that applies to the NTG-2.

Unfortunately, the standard 5D2 firmware has the automatic gain control cranked to eleven. The hiss is excessive. Fortunately, there is a 3rd party firmware effort, called Magic Lantern, that will give us gain control, and possibly a headphone monitor output and meters. I heard the very first results last night and I'm encouraged. I'll get into the numbers tonight.

In the meantime, a juicedLink into another camcorder or audio recorder will work. Once Magic Lantern is ready for primetime, you'll be able to patch the juicedLink into the 5D for a single recorder solution.

Thanks Jon, that's great news! Please post your results here with Magic Lantern, I'm interested to hear what you discover!
Thanks!
