EVF for 5DM2
 

Can anybody suggest the focusing method in HD shooting, when I was using 5DM2+500L f4 + 2XTC + 526 +350MVB combination at a distance of 30' to shoot the Tickel's flycatcher. It's quite difficult to focus it on LCD, it's very much awkward position to focus at close (even @ any distance using tele lens) distance. If the subject is stationery it won't be a problem but there is action/movement then it's almost impossible to focus as the DOF is very much narrow.
If any of the forum members invented a EVF of XL type that would have been wonderful or else any attachment that fits on LCD screen to focus. If they can share such invention to other members it's much appreciated.

Not a perfect solution by a longshot, but...

You can zoom in the LCD (before recording) to focus, it significantly helps nailing critical focus. Can't be done while filming though, although I think Tram's firmware either allows that or is on the list of potential improvements. The other thing is to stop down you aperture to give yourself a bit more DOF with that monster lens, not a great solution, but it'll help.

Magic Lantern is allowing zooming now. Also, look at the Hoodman products, and Zacutto offerings. Both have hooded magnifier to attach to LCD screen. I made a magnifier of my own. It is shown in the this thread:

Also one other possibility is through the prism viewfinder. If your subject is not moving, pre focus that way, before going into live view.

I have shot a 400mm with a 2x extender, and have gotten decent results, I actually put two extenders on it to make a 1600, and it even work, albeit a little soft in places. One thing about long lenses. Dust and hair on the imager will really be apparent. So you have to be prepared to monitor that issue and clean. The LCD just doesn't resolve enough to show it.

Not quite yet while recording, but it is on the list for further exploration in 0.1.6. I suspect that it will record the zoomed in area, which may not be ideal for every application (but may be very useful to avoid aliasing).
