5D Mark II covers the Haiti earthquake for MSNBC

Here's an interesting article for news and documentary shooters:
dslrnewsshooter

The equipment? A Z-finder, juicedLink, Magic Lantern, ME-66, and Avid workflow, Sorenson Squeeze prior to satellite dump. No mention of lenses. It looks like a combination of a shoulder unit and tripod for stability.

The story is about an orphanage and their move to a temporary location.

Best wishes to the children of Haiti.

Very moving.

It's cool to see the gear in use like this, and it was very useful to see what he would have changed (or has changed since then). It'll also help me round out my Haiti shot list for next week and to know what kind of lighting/environments I can expect.

What lenses will you bring, Kevin?

Personally, my main lens for a shoot like that would be the 24-105/4 L IS with some primes for lower light situations. I'd also bring a variable ND. The zoom with IS and variable ND would allow for very quick work.

There will be two of us going, both shooting on 5Ds. We will have 16-35/2.8 L, 24-70/2.8 L, 70-200/4 L IS, 35mm/1.4 L, and 50mm/1.2 L between the two of us.

The 24-105 would be a great lens. We're just now making the switch to DSLRs, so we're kind of learning as we go... but at what it costs to rent, not taking good glass would be foolish...
