Crushed blacks/detail loss??
 

I just my 5D mark ll last week and I may be wrong but it looks like my blacks are crushed or muddy in the video mode, both inside and outside in bright situations. A noticeable lack of detail.

I sold my 7D to pay for the 5D but I feels the 7D handled blacks better.
Here are my settings ....and I may have them set wrong

Highlight Tone priority --enabled
Auto Lighting Optimizer---Standard.

The operators manual doesn't go in those features in much detail.

Any setting advice appreciated

Try setting your picture profile to neutral and contrast all the way down. This will give you a little more detail in the shadow areas.

General consensus seems to be that Auto Lighting Optimizer should be off. HTP is the subject of some discussion you can do a search for that one on this and other forums.

What is your workflow? Cineform is clean Quicktime has some gamma issues. The old QT crushed blacks badly.

Most transcoders have it figured out, but it could be a possible problem area.

Thanks, I will go to 'neutral' and turn the contrast down and try that. Strange that it seems different than the 7D. I found 'Portrait' to be the most pleasing to my eye on the 7D so I used 'Portrait' with the 5D. I had also tried Bloom's flat settings and set the color in post. Maybe I will go back to that.

I am using Edius 5.5 for editing which takes the .Mov files right into the timeline. If any need transcoding Edius will convert to HQ .Avi files which looks great.
