Matching 5D & EX1 picture profiles?
 

I have searched this forum but can't find any info on matching the EX1 & the 5D.

Has anyone found a picture profile to get theses cameras looking about the same?
I have a shoot coming up soon and looking at using booth cameras but I'm having a hard time matching the Sony and Canon.

Any thoughts on this?

I have often used 5D and XDcams in the same production.

But never as A/B cam in the same scene. I can't seem to get them to match well. And I have several XDcams so I use those for A/B cuts of the same scene.

However there is no problem using them in completely different scenes. The biggest adjustment I do on the 5D is to lower sharpness. I usually do this in post these days.

I am not saying it is impossible, I just gave up because I have the luxury of several similar cameras.

Olof, are you saying that your 5D is sharper than your EX1? If not, why would you lower the sharpness on the 5D?

I have an EX3 and I am considering a 5D.

The standard sharpness setting in the 5DmkII is very sharp. And the camera has a lot of problems with shots with many sharp horizontal or near horizontal lines it produces a lot of moire, that can be quite bizarre.

Thank you Olof. I think it's best that I wait for the next generation. Hopefully those issues will get sorted out.

You captured some wonderful shots of the train. My favorite was the wide shot of the train crossing the bridge with the sun backlighting the billowing smoke...nice.

I am not telling anyone not to buy the 5DmkII. I love the camera for what it does well. I also have a 7D.

I just wanted to talk about some of its limitations, in those posts. It also has big advantages, SDOF is fantastic. I think it is a great alternative to SDOF adapters.

Canon has now fixed the lack of 29.97, 25 and 24 frame rates.

The biggest problem in my opinion is the codec. And the ergonomics.

But I think the 5D and other Canons DSLR cameras with 1080p are revolutionary, and I would not want to be without them.

As soon as Canon comes out with a camera like this that has full quality HDMI (or better yet HDSDI) I will buy it. What an incredible tool it will be combined with a NanoFlash.

In the mean time I use the 5DmkII and 7D in most of my productions at some point, they are unique and fantastic tools. And in my opinion the ultimate walk around cameras, I carry one with a monopod and a small steady bag, most of the time when on vacation or traveling. I usually keep the 5D with a 24-70 f2.8 on the front seat of my car as I drive, ready to shoot stills or video. I even take it with me when out for bike rides.
