Day to night time lapse software
 

Does anyone of a time lapse software that adjust the bulb settings on a 5d mark II. From what I've read, a good way to do day to night time lapses is using a "little bramper". The eos software as far as I know can only do basic timelapses? I'm looking for a more sophisticated software solution that can adjust the exposure depending on the time, or be able to adjust the bulb exposure.

Also, looks like the MX2 can do bulb exposures. How does this match up to the "little bramper"?

As you probably have discovered Tom Lowe's 'Timescapes' website has a forum devoted to timelapse photography, the best source of info on this exciting new mixture of still photography and video.

The 'Little Bramper' is a great bit of electronics that allows 'ramping' of the bulb exposure during the shooting of time-lapses and can also accomodate switching ISO's to further extend the exposure range.
'Day to night' and vice-versa is considered the most difficult part of time-lapsing as it requires a greater range of exposures than can usually be accomodated by simplying changing shutter speed or aperture.

The MX-2 is the control box that usually ships with the Dynamic Perception motion control time-lapse rig. It controls the camera shutter along with movement of the rig during exposures.

I know of one company that has produced software for the 5D2 during timelapsing- Granite Bay.

Their software requires the camera to be tethered to a lap top. I've not seen any feedback about that software though.
They also do software to remove the dreaded 'flicker' from time-lapses. This is caused be the problem that most DSLR's do not achieve perfect repeatablity of exposure over multiple shots when set to Auto Aperture exposure. That's the reason it's best opt for use manual control.

So can the MX-2 handle day to night transitions as well as the 'Little Bramper' ? Or does one need to get both?

I have both MX2 and Little Bramper. Only the Little Bramper does bulb ramping. Here is it’s website:

The MX2 will control two axes of DC motors for motion control as well as two additional axes of a motorized telescope mount. It will control camera exposure, but does not ramp.

They are independent and will only work together if the MX2 is in continuous motion mode and the LB is controlling the exposure. You do not need both.

Another DIY approach to the day-to-night or night-to-day holy grail TL is LightRails. It is an earlier project by the inventor of the MX2.
