Tokina 16-28mm f/2.8??
 

Anybody use this lens? I only just heard about it while trying to figure out whether to dig deep and buy myself the 16-35mm or save a bit and get the 17-40 4L (Save to get myself a 35mm prime).

Anyone know, use, want to give me this lens?

its not compatible on a full frame camera like the 5D... Although I hear its a great lens if you have a 7D.

No Louis, this is a full-frame lens. Perhaps you are confusing it with the 11-16.

Jason, I have been shooting with this one for about a month and am very happy with it. I have the previous series Tokina zooms (28-80 and 80-200) and while they are softer than my Zeiss ZE's, they color match well and have the hard stops for focus that make them preferable for me than the Canons. The 16-28 is much sharper, has very little distortion and overall is a great lens, especially if you can work at a 4 or greater. This is the first in a series of new Tokina full-frame zooms and I look forward to replacing my older gen versions as the others emerge.

ummm...don't think any of the projects I've been using it on are clear to share at present. Maybe (no promises) I can roll off a bit tomorrow when my gear is returned from a job. What exactly would you like to see demonstrated?

How do you use ND filters with this lens? It looks like it can't take any filters on the front of the lens. Are you limited to using it with a mattebox?

Yes, I use it with the O'Connor O Box and 4x5 filters, which do not vignette.

Any video you have time to take, just showing it at 16mm and 28mm, something inside so you don't use the mattbox or sometime late in the evening.

Just curious as to how it holds up

I can't quite figure out which one I want:

Tokina 16-28mm f/2.8

or

Canon 17-40mm f/4 L

The Tokina has 2.8 all the way through. But no filters to protect the front element.

The Canon can got to 40mm and accepts filters. It's also Canon glass...wish there was more out there on the Tokina lens.

For me, filters on a wide are a necessity. Timelapses generally use wides and if you want smooth motion, you need to be able to use an ND filter.
