On-board mic

I would really like to have some feedback on the following query please.

I use the 5D3 mostly for eng work where audio is captured just as a background. I have been using just the on-board mic of the 5D3. I am wondering if I add on either a Rode VideoMic Pro or the Stereo VideoMic Pro whether the captured audio would be much better that I will notice straight away rather than trying to convince myself that the captured background audio is better.

For those who have such mice, do you see any appreciable sound improvement please? And if I had to buy either one of them, is there a big difference between the stereo one or the mono one?

Any feedback is much appreciated! Thanks

Re: On-board mic

The Rode VideoMicPro will considerably improve your audio. Make sure you get a furry wind cover, because the foam one is almost ineffective. Also, crank your camera's audio gain down to just a click or two above zero to eliminate hiss.

I wish I could help you with the stereo version. Never used it.
