My Forlorn Search Hope - "Sundowner" (?) Clip?
 

In an attempt to unearth a thread, to assist one of our chums here, about manual and so on, I was researching for a clip done some years back, and posted on this Forum, regarding the the use and amazing outcome of a piece done by a wizard with the XM2. I thought it was called "Sundowner" or something like that. Anyways having spent the past hour trying to "catch" it through various searches . .. it has alluded me. It was a drama, centered on a fishing village and a fight ensued - yeah?

Anybody got a link or possible knowledge about what I'm talking about that might just get me to search in a different place, with different parameters?

After much travelling around with this amazing camera, and our friend's wish to get MORE from it, and re-reading Jim Cole's input to the post, I would rank the feedback from Jim as a truly seminal piece of work for DVINfo and a major reason why these forums are so important as both a technical and artistic resource. More precisely, just that one thread demonstrated just what this craft can provide AND with a camera that is oft not pushed by its owner.

Jim's generous discussion and analysis of setting the Black(set-up), Green and the other presets KNOWING that MB would bring back the contrasts is just a brilliant analysis of an approach that would do many owners of the XM2 a lot of good to read.

Thanks for bring this discussion up, guys! I missed it the first time around, and I just finished reading it, and it was a great read. It makes me want to go out there and shoot more video!

It was funny coincidence that you were looking for it, because I was just thinking about it a few days ago while getting frustrated with feeling stuck in SD/DV land (I have been hanging out in the Sony XDCAM EX forum too much) then remembered that there are decent things that can be achieved with this cam. That thread was where I first caught wind of Magic Bullet, so I actually just did a search for "Magic Bullet" in this forum and it came up right away. Took me 10 seconds. :-)

Yes, Sundowning... Sundowners are the towns in some parts of the US that don't permit Blacks and Jews after dark. Sadly, they still exist (read "Sundown Towns" by James Loewen).

Tragically, Magic Bullet won't run on my dinosaur of a Mac. If it wasn't for this darn rent and food I keep spending money on... ;-}p

I love my gl2 and the quality one can get with it is amazing!!

when guys ask about gl2 quality they only need to go that far to realize that the hd world is far from the only world.

when I start thinking HD I need only to go back to this thread and realize what quality can be had "With what I got"!!!

I could learn and do alot more just by adding majic bullet to my arsenal and spend one heck of alot less.

I reference this in my film look rants...to wit:

I've grown to dislike the term "Film Look" because it's constantly equated with 24p, Shallow DoF, grain and severe color treatments.

These things will do the least of any of the things necessary to get you the "film look". For an example of how little the camera matters, see "Stranger than paradise" by Jim Jarmusch was shot on 35mm and looks like video due to the static camera, wide framing, sparse sets and the flat lighting:
