Tape naming

Maybe I overlooked this but I want to name my tapes. Like 01:00:00.00 > 02:00:00.00 and so on before I strart filming. Can I do that in the camera? It's sounds like such a simple feature that the GL2 must support it. If not I can do it in FCP.

Ken Tanaka September 25th, 2003 09:35 AM

Erwin,
No, sorry. The GL2 does not support setting of time code. You'll have to use 1,2,3 or Fred, Mary, John...

If you're fastidious about your log and capture in FCP it will not be any problem, as FCP's project file will keep track of the clip/tape association for you.

Erwin van Doorne September 25th, 2003 12:01 PM

Okay Thanx.

Do you if the XL1s has it?

Erwin.

Ken Tanaka September 25th, 2003 01:21 PM

You cannot set time code with any Canon video camera.

Rob Lohman October 5th, 2003 06:02 PM

Is there a particular reason you might want or need this, Erwin?
As Ken pointed out most applications will keep the association
for you.

And welcome from a fellow country man!

Not really. My teacher told me just about all 3 CCD cams had this function and I could not find it on my XM2. But now I just put a sticker on the tape and name it in FCP.

Just as easy!

Rob Lohman October 7th, 2003 09:56 AM

That's funny, I don't think any DV camera has that option actually.
To my knowledge only professional camera's can set the SMPTE
timecode to begin at.
