Save money or Warranty?

Hi,

I have an option. Buy a GL2 from the U.S for £800 or buy one in the U.K for £1550. If I buy this camera from the U.S the warranty is not valid in the U.K.Canon say it has to be in the country of origin for it to be valid.

But i am tempted. The price diffrence is huge and that kind of money means alot to a student. If it is brand new camera then i should'nt get problems really, but i know things do happen.

Anyone purchased a Canon camera in the US before for use in the UK. I checked i can get a PAL from U.S. Whats everyones views? Pro Cons.....

Thanks.

I cannot guide your decision. But I will point out that this assumption is grossly erroneous. The fact is that you are far more likely to encounter warranty-covered problems when the camera is new. As the camera ages the problems tend to be related to wear, which are not covered by warranty.

If your plans for the camera are limited to casual shooting, the inconvenience of weeks of its unavailability for service may not be a serious problem (although the international shipment costs and bother will certainly be irksome). If, however, you plan to earn some income with the camera or will need it for schoolwork long, indefinite periods of service and shipment would likely present more serious problems.

Good luck.
