GL2 tape mechanism not rewinding!!

I love my GL2, but I guess I'm just having bad luck with the camera. (A couple months ago I sent it to Canon after a fuse blew. I was very happy with the service, though--was fixed and returned in less than 2 weeks).

Recently when I attempt to rewind, the timecode starts flashing on and off and I get the "eject the cassete" message. What's interesting is that this only starts occuring when the camera has been operating for a few minutes and has warmed up.

Here's my question: since I'm leaving for Europe in a few days and don't have time to send it in for repair, and it seems to have no problem recording, should I continue using it to shoot (Lance Armstrong winning his 6th tour!) during my trip, and get it fixed when I return??

Thanks, Vlad

Sounds like the same problem that a number of us have had, check past posts on the subject. The only problem that you will have is of course not being able to rewind and review footage. Be careful also that the tapes don't get eaten by the mechanism as well..........

Thanks for the reply. I've checked some of the posts you mentioned, and it appears that people with this problem were still able to record video on tape. I've also found that if I press rewind and then quickly hit stop a couple of seconds later I can rewind the tape a bit (before getting that "eject the cassette" message) and at least confirm that I'm getting some footage.
