Modifying the WD-58 hood

A photographer friend of mine told me he had an idea of how I could improve the image quality when I filmed punk shows at a local venue. He suggested that I cover the open sides of the hood for the WD-58 as that would prevent light from coming in the sides. I was wondering if anyone else has tried this and what they used to cover the open areas. I would like to hear how it worked for other before I risk modifying my hood.

You could use "black foil" (sorry donīt know how itīs called in english)..
Iīve seen it used many times as an improvised matte box, hood, etc..
Its flexible enough to just wrap around without modifying your lens, but hard enough to stay in position...
...unless if maybe, for some reason, you decide to get into the Pit of a punk concert with a $2000 camera.
