How loud should the tape transport be?
 

I just bought a GL2 , I also have a GS250. Both have noise from the tape transport but the GL2 is about twice as loud. The mic picks up the the sound. In auto mode the mic indicatior registers two bars on the right side. In manual mode with the levels set to about 75%, it registers very high 5-6 bars.

Is this normal?

I'm quite sure it isn't but I'll check when I get home. I normally don't use the on board mic, but from back when I used to use it I don't recall objectionable noise in the recordings.
