Tapes Brands/captures

Reading the posts of Zack's problems and then the interesting information about dropped frames I really became interested in using sony, panasonic, fuji or maxwell tapes.
I live on the fringes, the only place I can purchase tapes consistantly is a walmart 60 miles from home. I have purchased only dvm 60 tapes and kept to the one brand (because I read on this list the importance of staying with one brand).
I have just recently been looking into a tape deck and pondering using an economical camcorder (400 dollars as apposed to 1600 dollars).

the question begs, what tapes work best, without flaw, with my gl2. then if I use a jvc camcorder for capture, will the same tapes be read properly by the other camera.

OR, should I get an econo canon mini dv to use as a capture device.

So far, I have filmed 22 hours on my gl2 and have had no issue with the sony tapes. Should I clean and go to pany tapes (which I would have to buy in bulk and have them shipped in).

I would appreciate some further guidance along these lines, before i have problems.

I also realize that these lists always have more discussion of problems than all those out there without problems. should I leave well enough alone??

22 hours with Sony tapes without any trouble...
Why would you change tape brand?

Yes the JVC or any other camera should read your tapes properly.

Gus, if someone now asks you about switching tape brands, won't you be inclined to pass on the "wisdom" that it's a bad idea, even though you have been shown no real evidence?

I disagree with this proposition. I have close to 100 hours on my GL2 with a promiscuous mixture of Sony, TDK, Panasonic, Maxell and Fuji residues that so far have not turned into tape eating glue.

Thanks

Fred and Trond,

thanks for the comments. I will stay with the sony tapes and purchase an economical minin for a player. any suggestions?
