X-files?

<<<-- Originally posted by Rob Talley : Tustin,
Nice tutorial work.

When I follow your steps and go to Title Mix in the cam, it shows one that I created via the cam and it says there is another one but the image shows as an "X" and you can't select it.

I made sure the image size was 640x480 and am puzzled what I missed.

Any thoughts?
Thanks for your efforts. -->>>

I am having the same problem Rob mentions above, with the unselectable
"X"-file. Is there a solution to this? The truth is out there...

We figured it out... It took a few days.. But N. Aldoroty got the Title Mix working on his cam. Here is our email conversation.......

Tustin,

Good news. A friend and I figured out the glitch. We didn't have our
photoshop image saved in RGB color mode. That was the kicker. Once we
changed it to RGB, it worked just great. You sample image was a big
help though, thank you.

Thanks for all your time and help. Success at last...

:)

I hope this info is useful to those who are having an issue with this feature.

I think I found the problem

I bought a GL2 a couple of days ago (woohoo) and I think I found out the problem with the mysterious "X" when the Title doens't show up in the camera. Be sure that after you save the document as a .JPG, you are then prompted to save the file at a certain quality. I choose the best quality (12). Then before you click OK, be sure to select "Standard". My photoshop files were always set to progressive scan. If you guys already figured this out, then Well done! If not then I hope this helps someone!

It is late for me right now, so if this didn't make any sense then I'm sorry =)

Thanks for the great tip Jonny.

.wmv file

If you ever were to save that into a quicktime file it would be greatly appreciated by the mac using community.

New Versions available

I am pleased to announce that I now have a Quicktime version available as well as a plain text version available for you to download/read.

I have emailed Chris with the links, so hopefully we will see links on the SOWGL2 site.

I was not able to keep the file size of the QT movie down, so I split it into 2 parts.

http://www.ccpronline.com/tutorial/titlemixpart1.mov 16.7mb
http://www.ccpronline.com/tutorial/titlemixpart2.mov 20.6mb

The text file can be downloaded here:
http://www.ccpronline.com/tutorial/Title Mix Function Tutorial.rtf 8.5kb

I have also moved all of the other TMF stuff into this new /tutorial folder.

I am putting together a .zip file with some template style lower thirds, and some other titling backgrounds for you. All you will have to do is transfer them to the card.

Please send me some designs if you want. The more the merry-er!!

If you have any questions please email me, tlarson@cathedralcity.gov

Keep on title-mixing,
Tustin Larson

UPDATE

I was reminded last night by email that I have not uploaded the correct 16:9 matte yet. So this morning I finally did. You can find it here http://www.ccpronline.com/tutorial/USR00002.jpg

Thanx,
Tustin

P.S.
Chris,
Just wondering if you are interested in hosting the Title Mix QT files? The IT guys are starting to grumble again. =)

INFO UPDATE

Hello everyone,

My position with the City that I work for will be coming to a screeching halt come June 13 (due to budget cuts). I would like to thank all of you for the emails you have sent regarding the Title Mix Function. I will continue to answer questions/comments about the Tutorial, But you will have to reach me at my new address:

homevideo2dvd@hotmail.com

On a lighter note, the decision to downsize me has built quite a fire under my britches for getting my own company started. So, www.tklproductions.com will be coming soon. YaaaaY!

Thanks again everyone, and keep those emails coming!

Sorry to hear of your troubles, Tustin. But, if it's any consolation, such incidents keep us from becoming stale and often lead to more interesting challenges.

Don't forget to change the email address in your "User CP", above.

DOWNSIZE THIS!

Ho! Been there done that! - If you're involved in the arts - guilty - this goes with the territory. Not saying you were or have been, but I've found the options to challenge myself and where I want to be sometimes - not often - far more rewarding. - Sorry matey . . . keep in touch with us . . .

Oh yeah . . "Downsize This!" a nifty book by that scrouge of the Corp.Inc. countryside, Michael Moore. Get and at leasat have a few "Oh yes sireees!!"

Grazie

Any more?

Is the Quicktime version of this available any more? Or the text file?

Thanks!

Ken Tanaka March 15th, 2004 01:48 AM

Tustin has been away from the forum since July, 2003 and it looks like his server is gone, too.

We still have the .WMV version here at the link posted by Chris earlier in this thread.

16:9 guides do match...

I recreated all 3 of the letterbox mattes but used 720x480 instead of 640x480 as the video says. The 16:9 matte match the guides EXACTLY. Worked great. So your mattes do not have to be 640 x480 in order for them to work. In fact, the ones you can download from Canon come in at 768 x 576 (which is the same ratio as 640x480).

Marty Allen March 19th, 2004 06:33 PM

And an Update

Ok, while creating the 16:9 matte in 720 x 480 made it match perfectly, you do need to create mattes other than black bars in the 640x480 (1.333) ratio (same as canon provides). Creating a logo in 720x480 will make it appear squashed on the video while 640x480 maintains the correct aspect. I have shot tape with the 720x480 16:9 matte and it is beautiful! So... for letterbox, either way works, for logos or text, use 640x480.

Ron Severdia March 21st, 2004 01:09 AM

Sounds cool

Sounds cool. . . So you can use the matte as a guide when shooting in 16:9 mode? Have you tested it? Is it accurate (frame-wise)? Can you post it somewhere for download somewhere?

Thanks!
