GL2 Clips
 

I am strongly considering purchasing a GL2 and was hoping someone may have some clips shot with a GL2 that you wouldn't mind posting?

Check out this clip. http://gumspirits.com/sundowningtrailer.html it was shot with a GL2. Infact there is a thread discussing this film in this section. Try searching under GL2 trailer. I think that is what I used to find it.

I love my GL2! I bought it bran new, and I love everything about it. For the price you can not go wrong with the unit. It has a very sharp picture, I think with some added lighting and a decent mic, you should be set to start off on any considerable project. In fact, I love my GL2 so much that I bought couple used GL1's.

Keep in mind that the gum spirits video, although shot with a gl2, underwent some extensive post production work as well. Color correction, 24p adjustment... etc. My personal opinion is that within the $1500 to $2400 price range it is really the operator of the camera that is important. Most cameras within that range have similar specs and allow you to make important manual adjustments.

I've seen incredible GL2 footage with amazing depth of field, like the gum spirits video, and at the same time I've seen horrible XL2 footage that lacked any sort of quality picture. Does this mean that the GL2 camera is better? It really is the operator that makes the picture "good quality". So if you know how to make the adjustments and are still questioning which camera to get... well I would suggest going for what you are familiar with. Me? I got the GL2 because I'm familiar with Canon's products. It simply cuts down on the learning curve.

I will say that the GL2 does excel in performance according to its specs. In my opinion, it does have great potential to produce very high quality productions. All that is required is a wise operator. The only reason I say this is because I would hate for you to buy a two-thousand dollar camera and think it stinks, because all you do is turn it on and point and shoot and the resulting quality is poor. Realize that videography stems from photography, and photography takes time to learn before you can produce stunning pictures.

Jim I hope you are looking for something very primitive and from a newbs hands. I have never used a video camera before like this and these clips where shot about 4 days after I got my new GL2.

Bob! Amazing quality you achieved for a newbie. I'm very impressed. But I kinda think you DO have an understanding of all things mechanical and give a lot of respect to the machine you are operating. Here it just happens to be a camcorder. But I feel you would do the same operating a wood lathe or motor car.

I don't trust any video thats smaller than full size. Is there any way you guys could upload some full-rez pics from video? If its 4:3 resize it to 640x480, and if its widescreen make sure its resized to 853x480 to account the pixel aspect. I really wanna see full rez shots from this thing. Nobody has ever been willing to.

Thats from a once 1200 dollar GS400. I love my camera but the GL2 yields better results, or so people say. I want to actually see grabs full rez from video.

Here is a short doc project that was shot with a GL2.. (We also had an XL1, but the majority of the footage in the final film is from the GL2.)

Hi Brian,

It really is a great job you made on this small documentary. I'm mixing anthropology and cinema myself and that is a nice small documentary on a really important issue. I was just looking around for some clips with the GL2 (which i bought used a few days ago,...should come to my door soon enough) and found this interesting thread.
