Canon Xm2
 

Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone could provide some footage from the Canon Xm2, not the Gl2, with an 35mm adapter if possible. I've seen Jimmy's footage from "Alternate Image" and it looked really sharp and film like. I'm wanting to purchase one but wanted to make sure I get to see what it really looks like.

Hi Rich,

check out the link below. It's a Belgian film that was shot on an XM2 but they made their own adapter. The site shows you how to make an adapter yourself. Anyhow, have a look at the short film, it does look beautiful.

holy snike, that was made with the xm2??? i knew about their adapter through an slr but that's just incredible. interesting indeed. Thanks for your post.

I don't usually come to the GL1/2 forum (don't own one), but I just wanted to point out that it takes a lot to get images looking that great, and a GM2 with a mini35 doesn't you'll be able to achieve a good cinematic look automatically.

I just don't like to see people who've invested in a good camera dissapointed in their own results... it might take a while to really force a great image out of a particular camera. Good lighting, shot compositiong and color grading have everything to do with it.

Ok, I hope I didn't sound like a downer, and I don't know what your experience is -- I'm just saying you might have to spend some time before you can take shots that you really get excited about. Good luck on your purchase, and have fun!

Justin, I can't agree more! This is a craft, and a craft that is learnt and honed over maybe decades of work.

laugh, don't think i'm jumping into this whole camera buying experience blind folded. I agree, it takes a lot of lighting and a good DP to get good results. I'm just looking at the overall picture. Xm2 shoots in 25fps which is better than NTSC 30frame mode. Plus over on Alternate this guy has an xm2 and he's run and gunning his shots and they look pretty nice.

Is it me? I can't find the 'build yer own' page. If it's the Guide to DV Filmmaking pdf then the file seems to be damaged.

Yes, that's where it is. That PDF file is very large, and takes quite a few minutes to download (even with a broadband connection). Be patient, it will get to you eventually.

Oh. Well, I confess that I never saw that error. You're right, sounds like the file might be damaged.
