time code reading problem

Good evening,

I now have a couple interesting problems to deal with.

1. My gl2 can not read the time code from my xl2

2. my newer computer will not play the video in edit mode, just a black screen.

My older computer plays the video.

I am a tad perplexed at the moment.

I have absolutely no idea what is going on? Sorry.

However, have you tried "building-up" by stages each part of the chain? Meaning:

#1 - Plug XM2 in Comp 1 and then Comp 2 - Check each responds

#2 - Plug in XL2 in Comp 1 and then Comp 2 - Check each responds

#3 - Read XM2 on XL2?

When you say "my newer computer will not play the video in edit mode, just a black screen." - do you mean that this is AFTER capture OR while the XM2 is plug to it? Have you tried the XL2 plugged to the new comp? This is sounding like a faulty f/w connection - maybe . . ?

At the moment I'm thinking of many variables but would require you to do a bit more work to nail it.

At the end of the day, you may have a faulty/discharged XM2 system battery? No timecode? And maybe if it has been "rested" for sometime the reading of timecode may just have been a momentary thing?

Is the issue persistent, repeatable and "consistent" or is it intermittent?

What you may be seeing are 2 separate, non-dependant issues, that have surfaced independently. One scenario could be a failed f/w port/cable on new PC/XM2 while, confusingly, at the same time, the battery of the XM2 is failing. These 2 circumstances, although "appearing" at the same time, are not related - yeah?

Hmmm . . . interesting . . .

A bit more information will help formulate a response.

Please describe each problem in detail along with the setup that exhibited the problem.

What is the confuguration of the old and nw computer, including editing software you are using on each, and the capture card.

XL2 tapes do not paly on the GL2? Do GL2 tapes play OK on the XL2?

Have you tried tapes form a third camcorder in each? Older tapes (from a year or two ago) in each?
