Matte box/ lens shade for Optura 20 needed

Got to say this camera is easy to use, alot easier than the zr series. Small is not better with me . Seems to be about the size of my old super 8 cames don't ya think.Cool!!!
Anyway I wanted to get a low priced matte box or a good lens shade .Will be using a step up ring to 52mm. Would a oem lenshade from a different canon model work ?

Thanks

On my Optura XI I usa a Hama Hood. It mounts to the outside of a 52 mm step ring and costs under $20 at B&H photo. Just do a search at their site for Hama hoods.

Here's a pic of it mounted:

Dave what mic do you have on there? Did you use it when you shot "Indecision"?

Michael,

It's an Audio Technica ATR-25. Yes, it was used for Indecision but it was not on the camera, rather on a boom.

Dave that looks pretty good . Thanks .
Do you have to remove the hood to add a filter?

Found this lcd hood while doing the search

Hi Roy,

Yes, you put the filter on the lens then the step ring on the filter then hood clamps to the outside of the step ring.

Kevin,

I made the shock mount for the mic by cutting off the top of the clip that came with the mic and epoxying a 3.5" length od PVC pipe to the top. I then cut slots in it, painted it flat black, and used o-rings from the pluming deptarment as the mounts.

Anyone hear about that 2x converter from century? Its supposedly fits on a 62 mm step ring for alot of cameras including the Optura models!!! . But what kind of lens would go on there? Thats what I can't figure out. A Screw on lens?

this in the (June) Film and Video mag on page 18.

Dave, does that AudioTechnica mike make a very big difference on the camcorder? The price is pretty good.

Kevin,

That mic works pretty well for the price, but it's NOT a shotgun mic. It's a stereo omni directional but works better than the on camera mic. I actually think it has a nice stereo image and if handled well on a boom does a decent job for those of us on no-to-low budgets. I have 2 of them.

I also use them to mic the room for live music, then mix it back in with the sound board audio in post.

Nate,

They are there now. I recently reconfigured my 2 main web sites so that they point to one domain name and haven't transfered everything yet.

You can see more pictures at www.daveperry.net/xi

Thanks for the heads up and sorry for the missing images.
