Questions: Lens hood mount on Optura Xi

What other accessories would you use on the Optura Xi's lens hood mount? Is this where you'd attach a bayonet or matte box?

Is it also considered 46mm like the lens screw mount?

Michael,

I don't know if the hood mount on the XI is a standard bayonet mount or not...not really even sure if there is a standard mount period.

Anyway, below is a link to my XI with a Hama Lens Hood from B&H.

Per Canon's customer support, the Optura Xi's bayonet mount is a "standard" 46mm ...

Now if I could just find another accessory that mounts onto a "standard" 46mm bayonet mount, I'd be satisfied.

The only reference to 46 mm with the XI is the 46 mm filter threads on the lens.

Yeah, actually in this case, Canon hasn't been much help. I get the feeling the guys answering the questions have all the same materials and documents that we have.

Looking at the Xi, the lens thread is 46mm but, then I look at the lens hood, and it's pretty obvious it is much larger than 46mm. I'm thinking maybe 49mm. Course I could be wrong, I'm totally in the dark about bayonet mounts.

** I was trying to see if there was a way to add a lens or matte box onto the bayonet mount.

So right now, it's a moot point, since I can't confirm I can attach anything to the bayonet mount - except for the included lens hood.

Michael,

So far the only thing I can come up with is to use stuff that mounts to a 52 mm step ring or buy extra XI hoods from Canon to use as the base for your own fabrications.

I did a search on B&H last night for anything "bayonet" related and saw nothing with a 46 mm size.
