Any 512mb SD card will work in any SD-equipped Optura. Hope this helps,

Yes Chris it does help.

The manual said only Panasonic cards ..kinda freaked me out.

Thanks

Panasonic cards are among the fastest ones out there. There is a big variance in speed among the different cards. For movie encoding to the SD card, speed may be an issue.

Wow! didnt know that. I just wanted to use these for photos.

Which cards are more reliable that you have used?

Thanks

This is a little off topic - I used the still feature function in the Xi for the first time last weekend. I really didn't have any interest in it's feature's beyond video - I just tried the stills to play around with it.

Anyway I printed them, with out any Photshop adjustments, 4 on an 8x12 glossy photo sheet. Wow! They look like film lab prints. Razor sharp detail. Hard to believe they came out of a camcorder.

This makes the Xi an even better deal. Nice big lens, and the auto-flash works great too.

So, I'm looking for a bigger SD card as well.

The Panasonics are rated at 10Mbs and are substantially faster than the 2Mbs rating of the normal non-ultra Sandisk variety. Sandisk Ultra is rated at about 9Mbs. This higher speed will allow for recording video clips to the card.

If you are using the camcorder for pictures, transfer rate would not normally be an issue unless you are using it in continuous "drive mode".

I recall reading that Opturas can capture up to 3 frames per second so memory card speed can be an issue.

If you can find the Panasonic SD card for about the same price or a little more, I would go for the Pany. I have seen the 256 on sale at Frys for $55 before $15 rebate
