Need your Opionion

Hi,

I have a Question the Canons Optura Models?
Let me try to break this down, at the moment I have the XL1s which I like to sale, so I can get the XL2
But after a couple of times going on Vacation, Snowboarding or other sudden activities.

I was thinking I need a smaller point & Shoot type Camera.
I did some reading on the internet and I found that the Optura Xi, 500 and 400 kind of seem what I want
(since I have Canon why not stick with it right?) Well what would your opinion be that would fit the need.
Especially when traveling, Snowboard, Mountain Biking or just take the thing out to shoot at a Party.
I will be probably only shooting in 16x9, most reviews say that all three models shoot native 16x9. Is this true?

At the moment I’m looking at the 400 and the 500 since they are really small and compact but are there any good in Handling?
Remember I most likely get a XL2 so I won’t need a high speed Shooter just something for Personal moments.

Thanks

Shaggy

Oh yeah I tihnk they are called in Europe:

Optura 400 = MVX30i
Optura 500 = MVX35i
Optura Xi = MVX3i

Thanks

P.S. does anbody know where I can get a PAL model in the US?

Go with the MVX35i (Optura 500). You won't be disappointed. I think your best option is to buy in Europe. The only PAL dealer in the U.S. that I'm aware of is B&H.

Thanks,

Yeah I already checked B&H but no luck there.
What about the Sony DCR-PC350, I heard it has a better
Picture quality then the Canon, anybody made some experience on this?
Also is it also Native 16x9? Which what kind of sux about the Optura 500
that it can't use its Stabilizer when shooting 16x9

Thanks

If the Optura 500 is like the 40, you can use the stabilizer with 16:9 - it just narrows your view angle a bit.
