I was curious to know everyone's audio setup for their HV20. Which of you use an XLR adapter for mic input (such as the Beachtek, SignVideo, etc.) and which of you use just a mic with 1/8" plug only, which like to use an external mixer, etc...

XLR-Pro from Signvideo

Sometimes I use a mixer when I have setup with a condensor mic or more than two dynamic mics.

I wouldn't leave home without. It stays mounted to the bottom of my HV20 all the time.

Oktava MK012 mic (great mic for the price (less than $200))
Mackie 1202-VLZ3 mixer (amazing headroom for $300)

I also bought a PowerSource 400 portable battery power unit to use to power the Mackie when I'm away from A/C. Supposedly will run for 15 hours, but I haven't had to test that theory yet.

John, did you choose the XLR-Pro over the DXA-2s because of the lower price? The features are about the same otherwise. Also, does the XLR-Pro give you back a threaded hole on its underside? I know the Beachtek has this but can't tell with the XLR-Pro since there are no bottom pics of the unit.

Beachtek DXA-2s
AT 897
I also have a small Berhringer mixer (602A) similar to the Mackie for pre-amp/phantom power

i either use a regular shotgun mic with a hosa xlr to 1/8 mono cable, or a wireless lav that has 1/8 out, or a mixer that has line level outs TRS 1/4 pair to 1 stereo 1/8 (have to have mic att on, and turn the levels way down, but it works fine)

the regular shotgun to mono cable is the most versatile i think, and the sound quality is great.

Hey Jason,
That's very interesting! I have a bunch of questions if you don't mind.

Does your version have all 3 capsules? If not, which capsule do you have?

XLR or 1/8 inch?

Shock mount or no?

Does it pick up motor or zoom noise?

How is it with voices?

Where did you get it for less than $200?

Thanks!
