Audio levels in HG10 - any control?

Is there any way to control the audio record level when using either the built in or an external mic on the Canon HG10? I've looked through the menus and the manual and haven't seen any user adjustable settings. Thanks.

Unfortunately no. The HG10 has a microphone input jack but it does not allow for manual control of audio input levels.

Thanks Chris.

Moved from HV10 / HV20 to AVCHD.

Hi there,

I have the HG10 and here's a few workarounds,

1. Use a Beachtek

2. Use a ghetto little headphone attenuating cable and experiment with dialing it back

3. Small field mixer

Here's a clip I made tonight with a Rode Videomic and my little cable solution. The average volume with it at 100% and 50% is similiar, but the 50% version has less limiter kicking in. I could have dialed it a down a lot more if I had needed to.

I have a Beachtek if I want to use my AT4073a shotgun mic. The Rode's nice for simple stuff as it doesn't require a separate phantom source.

Duh moment...

I just discovered the newer version of the Rode VideoMic has a battery compartment-located dipswitch that allows attenuation levels of 0, -10, -20.

Dammit. That's a stupid move... one of the features I REALLY liked about the HV20 was the fact that you COULD control the audio input... helped me to avoid audio blowouts.

Yeah, yeah, I know, Beachtek adapter, but still.
