Film Look Attempt
 

Hi Guys,

Friend and i did some test on the hv20. And as usual trying for the film look. Here's the link:

I like how you composed the shots. Did you use a crane in your shots ... there was some roll when the camera moved (sort of like the Bourne Ultimatum style).

did u use a 35mm adapter or not?

thanks. Yea some shots wern't too steady. Nopre no 35mm just the hv20 itself

what were the settings?
how much did you do in post?

Yes, another call for knowing exactly what settings you used and how you altered the footage in post.

Also, what did you do in order to keep the sky detail very high, mid-day on the beach, besides underexposing.

A polarizer filter will do that for you ;-)

How it compares to a black net filter?

Black Net filters (especially the Cokin) have a regular pattern that most definitely shows up on HD footage. This results in imaging of net on wide angle shots as well as specular highlight flare. Also this filter and others like it cause a significant loss in detail in your black levels. This creates milky looking black colors. You can have limited success with this filter for the desired effect if you shoot at telephoto with the lens wide open. Not a realistic scenario for most shooters.

The Schneider Black Frost is an irregular pattern of proprietary material that creates the diffused effect but maintains black levels. If we were to select a random filter company and assigned them a meaningless name, lets say company T, you would find that our filter is 30% more effective at maintaining black levels than company T's filter.
